These arteries of movement carry not only personal automobiles but also trucks, buses, freight carriers, and specialty vehicles. With such dense and diverse traffic, the potential for accidents, breakdowns, and emergencies is ever-present. Vehicle rescue on the interstate is a specialized discipline, rooted in rapid response, technical expertise, and a deep commitment to preserving life and property. This document explores the complexities of interstate transportation vehicle rescue, detailing its significance, operational challenges, equipment, and best practices.

Interstate highways differ fundamentally from local roads. Their high-speed, multi-lane environment magnifies the consequences of any incident.

A single crash or breakdown can cause far-reaching impacts:

     Including immediate danger to life and health from high-speed collisions, hazardous cargo spills, and multi-vehicle pileups that threaten drivers, passengers, and responders.

     Disruption of commerce: Major transport corridors are vital for economic activity; delays ripple through supply chains.

     Environmental risks: Accidents involving fuel, chemicals, or livestock pose additional threats to the environment.

     Traffic congestion and secondary accidents: Blocked lanes can lead to further collisions, as drivers attempt evasive maneuvers or become distracted.

Vehicle rescue teams on the interstate must act quickly, decisively, and safely—balancing the urgency of saving lives with the logistical challenges of working in fast-moving, unpredictable environments.

Course Objectives:
8 hours of practical skills covering commercial transport vehicles versus passenger vehicles.

Introduction to Heavy Vehicle Rescue or equivalent course.

Resources Required: Students:
Paper and pencil, extraction appropriate PPE (i.e., Pants, long sleeve shirt, eye protection, gloves, helmet, hearing protection.

Host Agency:
Classroom with projector, sound, seating, and outdoor space for practical portions. Vehicles and props supplied by the host agency. Rescue tools and equipment for class are supplied by the host agency. Equipment to set up scenarios as required. Safety Officer by the host agency.

Vendor provides:
Classroom materials and handouts, as well as a PowerPoint projector if needed. Struts, Hand tools, hard and soft protection, battery-powered hand tools and equipment. Instructors: 1 per 8 students.
