This 12 hour class includes Principles, Challenges, and Strategies for Responding to Large-Scale Road Incidents.

Heavy vehicle rescue is a specialized field within emergency response, focusing on the complex and often hazardous task of extricating and assisting victims trapped in or around large commercial vehicles following road traffic accidents. These incidents typically involve trucks, buses, construction equipment, agricultural machinery, and other large and heavy vehicles.

Unlike standard automobile rescues, heavy vehicle incidents present unique challenges due to the scale, mass, and construction of the vehicles involved, as well as the potential for hazardous cargo.

Course Objectives:
4 hours of classroom and 8 hours of Practical scenarios designed and based on the host agency's needs and equipment carried, and the vehicles that the host agency is able to obtain. Introduction to rescue and extrication of buses, cement trucks, trash trucks and semi-trucks, etc.

Prerequisites:
Fire Fighter II class completion, or Modern Passenger Vehicle Extrication or equivalent class.

Resources Required
Students:
Paper and pencil, extraction appropriate PPE (i.e., Pants, long sleeve shirt, eye protection, gloves, helmet, hearing protection.

Host Agency:
Classroom with projector, sound, seating, and outdoor space for practical portions. Vehicles and props supplied by the host agency. Rescue tools and equipment for class are supplied by the host agency. Equipment to set up scenarios as required. Safety Officer by the host agency.

Vendor provides:
Classroom materials and handouts, as well as a PowerPoint projector if needed. Struts, Hand tools, hard and soft protection, battery-powered hand tools and equipment. Instructors: 1 per 8 students.
