Class Vendor: This class is available for contracted delivery from MU Fire Rescue Training Institute - MUFRTI. Contracted Price: $3000.

One of the least recognized aspects of fire threat is the vehicle fire. Due to recent changes in vehicle design and construction firefighters are forced to change the way vehicle fires are fought. This course will present safe and efficient strategies and tactics to extinguish vehicles fires based upon: vehicle design; operating fuel, construction materials; location; and ignition and coolant systems. Students will participate in live fire evolutions using a vehicle firefighting simulator.

Course Objectives: The student shall identify and describe the hazards that fire fighters face when fighting vehicle fires. The student shall identify and describe the types of common fire hazards in each of the three categories of a vehicle fire. The student shall identify alternate types of fuel systems in today's transportation needs. The student shall identify the risk and safety concerns of passenger compartment fire fighting. The student shall identify the proper placement of fire apparatus while at a vehicle fire. The student shall identify the importance of using full protective equipment and SCBA while on the scene of a vehicle fire. The student shall identify proper extinguishment tactics and strategies. The student shall identify the elements of vehicle fire suppression. The student shall identify the considerations for each element of vehicle fire suppression. The student shall explain appropriate strategies and tactics for extinguishing each of the three categories of vehicle fires. The student working as a member of a fire attack team will appropriately deploy, approach, and control a simulated vehicle fire while wearing full firefighting PPE.

Student Pre-requisites: Must have successfully completed one of the following courses: Basic Fire Fighter Skills, Introduction to the Fire Service or Firefighter I certification. Equivalent programs will be considered with documentation of completion.
