Class Vendor: This class is available for contracted delivery from MU Fire Rescue Training Institute - MUFRTI. Contracted Price: $1600.

This class will give you information on what you can do and what hazards to look for when you are the first on the scene of a trench collapse rescue. But most of all, how to be safe and not become a victim yourself. This class meets requirements of Chapter 11, NFPA 1670, Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents, 2017 edition as well as OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P.

Course Objectives: Determine the considerations that make specialized rescue operations different from traditional fire and rescue work. Understand the various methods that can be used to form and maintain a fully functional and effective team for trench rescue. Understand the necessity of maintaining a competent trench rescue team in your community. Understand the role that physics and physical forces associated with soil have in trenching and excavation emergencies and determine the various factors that can lead to collapse. Describe the various types of trench collapses and why they occur. Understand how consistent standards are used to classify soil based on its potential for collapse and the methods used to test soil for classification purposes. Assemble and operate the various types of equipment and tools used in trench rescue operations. Summarize the steps to consider when approaching a trench rescue scene and looking for buried victims.  Understand the various hazard types, categories, and phases of control, including using atmospheric monitoring as a method of determining real and potential hazards that may be found at the scene of a trench rescue.
