This class is offered through Rescue Redefined through a special grant from the Regional Clean Cities and Communities initiatives.

This 8-hour course provides emergency responders with a comprehensive introduction to incidents involving lithium-ion battery-powered vehicles, devices, and energy systems. Participants will develop foundational knowledge and operational response skills to safely and effectively manage emergencies involving hybrid and electric vehicles, micro-mobility devices, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and photovoltaic integrations. The training emphasizes situational awareness, hazard recognition, and practical mitigation strategies to enhance responder safety and community preparedness.

Training Objectives

Participants will:
• Increase awareness of hazards associated with lithium-ion battery-powered vehicles and devices.
• Develop introductory operational response capabilities for battery-related incidents.
• Strengthen safety culture and preparedness in handling emerging energy technologies.
