This course addresses the requirements for Hazardous Materials Technician found in NFPA 470, Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Standard for Responders, 2022 Edition.

Reporting Instructions
This is a blended online and hands-on training course eligible for certification testing by the Missouri Division of Fire Safety. This course will meet the NFPA 470, 2022 training standard for Hazardous Materials/WMD Technician. The coursework (lecture portion of training) will be assigned through the IFSTA Resource One training portal and students will have 30 days to complete the online coursework. Access to the online portion will begin 30 days prior to the first scheduled day of the 40 hour (weeklong) hands-on practical. Students must complete all online assignment, tests, quizzes, etc. prior to day one of the 40-hour practical skills training week.
Students will learn how to interpret hazard and response information, hazard classification and identification techniques, sampling, container conditions, victim rescue and recovery, monitoring, decontamination, how to don and doff PPE, leak control, and other hazmat technician related tasks.
Students will perform practice scenarios to prepare for real world emergencies as well as the state practical exam.
The state practical exam must be scheduled after the course is completed.
Students will need an SCBA and spare bottle for the 40-hour practical skills training. Student chemical PPE will be provided as well as textbooks, and other course items.

Prerequisites include the following: Hazmat Awareness & Hazmat Operations.
